While Andy was born and raised in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, his wife, Wendy, is a Rockford native and Guilford High School graduate. They have two children - Kelley and Corey - a son-in-law, Joe, and a granddaughter. Andy and his daughter are Green Bay Packer fans and his wife and son are Chicago Bears fans.

Andy graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he worked as a manager for the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team. He received an honors degree in broadcast journalism and a bachelor of science in political science.

Andy says, "The Rockford area has and continues to be good to me. Hopefully, I've been good to it."
