One dead in shooting on Rockford’s east side
The family believes it was a targeted attack
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A 46-year-old man died Tuesday morning after a shooting in the 900 block of 12th Avenue.
Police got the call shortly after 6:30 a.m. and are investigating what happened.
Members of the victim’s family were willing to talk about him, saying he was a man who always looked out for other people, even if they weren’t family.
They say his death leaves a big void in their lives.
“I still feel like he finna come around one of these corners, and be alive even though I saw him in a body bag,” said a cousin of the victim.
Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd says when it comes to incidents like this, the senseless gun violence needs to stop.
“You look at our gun recoveries from last year, the officers did a phenomenal job with recovering as many guns as they did last year, it’s around 433, but clearly we still have a ways to go and we’re working on it every day,” Redd told 23 News.
Information about the shooting was released in a series of tweets by the Rockford Police Department.
