ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A 61-year-old man from Rockford was killed after a semi-truck rolled over on I-90 eastbound Thursday morning.

The Winnebago County Coroner says the victim was the driver of the semi. The single-vehicle accident happened at mile marker 14.25 eastbound on I-90 near Rote Road.

Around 5:30 a.m. eastbound traffic began backing up on I-90 near the Riverside Blvd. exit ramp after a semi-rollover crash was reported near that area. A stretch of I-90 between Riverside Blvd. and E. State St. was closed off while first responders and officials were at the scene.

Traffic is being diverted off the highway at the Riverside Blvd. exit ramp. Due to the closure, traffic was backed up all the way north to Route 173. Drivers should expected delays.

Police advise the public the avoid the area for the next several hours while the accident is being investigated.
