ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Stellantis says it is extending the production shutdown at the Belvidere Fiat Chrysler Assembly Plant until July 4.

In a statement to 23 News from spokesperson Jodi Tinson, she says, “Stellantis continues to work closely with our suppliers to mitigate the manufacturing impacts caused by the various supply chain issues facing our industry. Due to the unprecedented global microchip shortage, production at the Belvidere Assembly Plant will be down through the remainder of June with the week of June 28 as a previously scheduled down week.

Last month, Stellantis announced the Jeep plant would eliminate a shift, reducing down to one shift only. Sixteen hundred workers will be laid off.
