Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after Caledonia crash

A motorcycle was traveling westbound on IL-173 when an eastbound pickup truck attempted to turn into a driveway.

CALEDONIA, Ill. (WIFR) - A motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital after a crash in Caledonia Wednesday afternoon.

At around 2:10 p.m., a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by a 48-year-old man from Rockford was westbound on Illinois Route 173 when an eastbound 2017 Ford F250 pickup truck driven by a 34-year-old man from Caledonia turned north into a private driveway and into the path of the motorcycle, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken from the scene by Lifeline Helicopter with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured. There were no passengers in either vehicle, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was believed to be serious enough that accident reconstructionists will be at the location of the crash. The stretch of IL-173 from Wyman School Road to Caledonia will be closed.

Assisting at the scene was Lifeline Helicopter, Boone County District 3 Fire Department, and the Illinois State Police. The crash remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
