ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The IceHogs will get a key piece to their team back for the 2021-22 season. Dylan McLaughlin has re-signed with the club on a one-year minor league deal.

McLaughlin earned the team’s Most Improved Player award this past season. The 25-year-old forward led the IceHogs in points with 22 and assists with 14. He also tied for the team lead with eight goals over 28 games. He tied for the league lead in shorthanded points with four (two goals, two assists). He turns 26 on June 5.

McLaughlin wrapped up his third season in Rockford. After appearing in just seven games his first year in 2018-19, McLaughlin skated in 28 games in 2019-20 splitting time with the IceHogs and Indy Fuel.

Head coach Derek King is excited to have the forward back in the fold. He says the bar will continue to be raised for McLaughlin. Dylan says he’s going to work to turn that AHL contract into an NHL one.

“The big thing that we talked about in the exit meeting there was just continuing to get bigger and stronger here,” said McLaughlin. “That’ll just help me get into the hard areas, get to the net more. Just creating more opportunities for myself and helping out in the D-zone more. So, that’s definitely a big thing there. Like I said, I’m excited to start up this week doing that already.”
