Olson’s offering tree lighting to honor loved ones lost
Olson said he hopes the lighting ceremony will bring some comfort to those families who have been hit hard this year.
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Olson Funeral and Cremation Services is offering comfort to Rockford families in grief during the pandemic by lighting a large tree surrounded by luminaries at Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens on Friday, Nov. 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to honor those whose lives were lost in 2020.
The luminaries have been requested by families and will represent a loved one served by the staff at Olson’s.
Families are invited to join the lighting with social distancing and masks at the base of the Floral Clock, just north of the lagoon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The lighting will take place before the official opening of the Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens display the next day.
“It’s especially hard at the holidays when you’re grieving the loss of a loved one,” Scott Olson, Funeral Director and President of Olson Funeral and Cremation Services, said. “Add in the pandemic and the inability to get together with family and friends and you have another layer of sadness.”
Olson said he hopes the lighting ceremony will bring some comfort to those families who have been hit hard this year.
