A student at New York's Fordham University claims she was attacked in her hotel dormitory by bedbugs, and she has the pictures to prove it.
Twenty-one year old Michelle Hopkins says she was nearly eaten alive by bedbugs in her college dorm, on the 15th floor of the New Yorker Hotel.
She took photos of the bite marks and brought them with her Thursday (09/20) when she and her attorney spoke to the media. Hopkins said she saw a bedbug in her room on September 2nd, the day she moved in. She said she reported it, but added an exterminator didn't show up for four days.
Hopkins says the bites triggered two asthma attacks that sent her to a hospital.
An estimated 200 dorm rooms at the New Yorker are managed by Educational Housing Services. Company president George Scott did confirm a bedbug infestation on the premises, that Hopkins' room was fumigated and all of the furniture was removed. He also said there is not a hotel in New York City that doesn't have bedbugs.
Hopkins is suing the hotel, the company that rented her the room, and the owner of the hotel, Reverend Sun Myung Moon, for unspecified damages.
