WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR)-- The Illinois Department of Agriculture will spray 3,500 acres for gypsy moths. The areas that will be treated are just north of Interstate 39 in Rockford and four smaller areas in rural Winnebago County near Shirland. The treatment is being applied early this year in late April and May because of the high temperatures. A pheromone will be used in Rockford instead of pesticides.
For more information about the treatments you can visit the Illinois Department of Agriculture's website at www.agr.state.il.us.
