ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Public Works Department has 30 trucks to handle clearing snow. For this storm, 22 trucks are in circulation and 8 are on standby.

As of 5:00, areas in the Stateline have accumulated around four inches of snow. Many schools in the western and southern parts of our viewing area closed early today. Out of the twenty-two snow trucks plowing snow today two had accidents. Street Division Superintendent Mark Stockman says one accident was related to a driver colliding into one of the trucks because it was going to fast. He says collisions like this are easily avoidable only if drivers practice winter driving habits.

Crashes

Despite the efforts of city and county workers we have several accidents to report tonight.

A car and a semi ended up in a ditch this morning on US 20 near the I-39 exit ramp. Getting it upright and towing it out of there caused some delays. Meanwhile, a snow plow slid into a car near Argus and Sundae in Rockford. Fortunately no one was badly injured in either incident. Illinois State Police say they've been called out to many accidents and fender benders related to the snow.
