Severe Storm and Tornado Spotter Training Class To Be Held in Dixon

DIXON (WIFR) -- During severe weather situations we all hear about terms such as; Derecho, Bow Echo, Hook Echo, Outflow Boundary, Flanking Line, Supercell Thunderstorm. How would you like to know the definition of these terms and how to look at the sky and determine if severe weather is imminent?

Ogle County Emergency Management, Whiteside County Emergency Service and Disaster Agency and Lee County Office of Emergency Management are hosting a Severe Storm and Tornado Spotter Training class conducted by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Thursday April 4, 2013 at Sauk Valley Community College 173 IL Rt. 2, Dixon, IL in room 1K4. The class begins at 6:30 PM and will last approximately one and a half hours.

This training is open to anyone interest in the weather; including the general public, fire, police and public works agencies. This is a great opportunity for local industry safety team representatives, who are task with the job of issuing severe weather instructions to facility employees to understand or refresh on signs of approaching severe weather. Spotting approaching severe weather and issuing a timely warning will saves lives.

The training consists of a slide and video program lead by a National Weather Service forecaster who will discuss severe storm structure, and how to identify cloud features and other environmental clues to identify severe storms and tornadoes.

Whether you work in a factory, on farm, out in the yard, or play on a sports field or golf course, this class will provide you with lifesaving information. There is no cost for the class.
