Record Warmth to Ease, but Only by a Bit

It hadn't happened a single time before March 23 in 106 years, but it happened 6 times in just the past 21 days! Of course, we're talking about the unprecedented run of 80° temperatures we've enjoyed here! We're by no means the only ones who've been shattering records these days. 80s were found Wednesday as far North as Caribou, ME, where there's still 2" of snow on the ground, and Marquette, MI, where less than three weeks ago had just shy of FOUR FEET of snow on the ground! The small town of Pellston, MI, at the very northern tip of the Lower Peninsula positively obliterated a record on Wednesday by the tune of 32°! That's right, 32°! The high temperature there was 85° Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 53° set five years ago!

Records have not discriminated based on location in the United States. The tally of record high temperatures set from Coast to Coast over the past seven days has risen to a jaw-dropping, mind-numbing 3,550!!!

A well-organized, yet slow-moving area of low pressure brings cooler, more unsettled weather to the Stateline beginning Thursday. Rain's due in by mid to late morning, earliest in the SW, latest in the NE part of our viewing area. This system is to produce waves of rainfall through early Saturday, with an occasional thundery downpour as well, though many rain-free hours are promised!

March, 2012 is running a few tenths of an inch above normal in the precip department thus far, and we'll likely add to the surplus in the coming days. An ensemble of multiple computer models yields an average of 0.88" to come through Saturday, with the range in models running between 0.64" and 1.34"!

Though cooler, temperatures here for each of the next seven days will sit comfortably in the 60s and 70s, a good 15° to 22° above Late-March normal values!
