CHICAGO (AP) -- The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for most of Illinois.

The weather service is forecasting that the hot, sticky weather should last through Wednesday.

Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications is advising city residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related emergencies and illness. Executive Director Gary Schenkel says people should check on the elderly and the disabled to determine their wellbeing.

The extreme heat comes as Illinois' corn crop wilts due to drought conditions in the state.

The Illinois Farm Bureau says it's the sixth driest year on record so far.
