Late Season Allergies Attack Stateline

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- While many of us are outside enjoying the unseasonably warm conditions, our December warmth has also brought another problem across the Stateline in the form of a late season allergy attacks.

Dr. Fatima Mohiuddin an allergy specialist at Brookside Specialty Center, says we typically deal with indoor allergies this time of year, one being our Christmas trees. In addition to that, warm moist conditions have led to an increase in outdoor mold.

"People go outdoors and there are mold spores in the air from being around wet rotting leaves. That is one reason. Once you close the doors and windows people are exposed to more dust mites and pet dander," Mohiuddin said.

Allergy sufferers should get a break once freezing conditions work back into the area killing off the mold. Until that happens, doctors say symptoms are easily treatable with over the counter medications but if your conditions persist it is always best to see your doctor.
