ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Forecasters say Illinois could receive more than half a foot of snow from an approaching winter storm.

The snow is expected to begin falling late Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Romeoville says northern Illinois could receive four to eight inches of snow by midmorning Wednesday. At some points, the snow could fall at a rate of an inch or two per hour.

Northwestern Illinois is expected to get between two and four inches of snow and central Illinois could receive three to five inches.

Meteorologists say blizzard conditions could be possible at times, thanks to wind gusts that could reach 40 mph.

The latest round of winter weather comes as much of the state is enjoying a respite from cold, bitter temperatures. The temperature reached 54 in Chicago Monday.
