STATELINE (WIFR) -- It may have struck a thousand miles away, but we may be paying the price for damage caused by Hurricane Irene here in the Stateline.
A spokesperson from U.S. Senator Mark Kirk's office tells 23 News, if Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties are declared Federal Disaster Areas, payment could be quite delayed. That's because money set aside in the disaster relief fund is now dedicated to emergency needs like temporary housing and debris clean-up on the east coast. A FEMA survey estimates Stateline homes and businesses suffered $7 million in damage from July's severe floods.
