ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Local hospitals say the overall the number of patients checking into the emergency rooms is about normal, but they have seen a spike in number of heat related cases.
Officials with SwedishAmerican Hospital say doctors in the ER have seen an increase in heat related visits, including people with breathing difficulties. Doctors say that isn't surprising because dry, dusty, hot and humid conditions can be difficult for people with asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Doctors at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center also say they have seen a handful of heat related cases. Health officials stress to keep yourself hydrated by drinking water.
