First 70s in Nearly 5 Months Imminent

70s in March certainly don't happen everyday, and they surely don't typically show staying power! This, though, appears to be a dramatic exception! Dating back to 1906, there have been 51 years in which a 70° temperature has been observed in Rockford, meaning just about half of our years see at least one 70. From there, a dramatic dropoff takes place. Just over 25% of years have produced two or more March 70s, while less than 20% register three or more! As you'd expect, the numbers continue to go down from there. There've been only 4 times in 106 years in which 6 or more 70s have gone in the books, and most of those saw the 70s occur very late in the month! Perhaps more jaw-dropping is the fact that I have six CONSECUTIVE 70s in the forecast! A run that long hasn't happened since 1910, and it's never happened this early in the month!

Here are some more interesting tidbits to chew on...

Five of the six LOW temperatures in the 7-day forecast are warmer than the normal HIGH temperature for this time of year! Normal highs are in the 46° to 48° range, our lows range from 49° to 56°!

Records are likely to fall on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday's predicted 77° should have little trouble knocking down the 74° record for the date. Thursday's a closer call, with 74° the predicted high and 73° the record!

Though records currently aren't forecast for the remaining days, we'll be no further than 3° shy of record territory Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

We're truly in rare air here, folks! Enjoy it!!!
