Extreme Wind Blasts Through the Stateline

ROCKFORD (WIFR) --Strong winds are causing severe problems throughout the Stateline. That includes more than one-thousand power outages in Stephenson County

We found a tree that fell onto a power line and sparked a brush fire. Firefighters had to wait until ComEd crews showed up before trying to put it out. We’re told the situation is now under control... and power has been restored to all but one-hundred customers.

City crews are cleaning up this tree that fell into the middle of 15th avenue about an hour ago. Police say heavy winds knocked it down, luckily no one was injured.

Brenda sent us this picture of a semi truck that flipped over while trying to turn west on 38 in Rochelle. Illinois State Police couldn't say how it happened, but often the wind is to blame in these situations.

Brenda said, “Here is the picture of the semi rollover at the intersection of Rt. 38 and the north bound exit ramp off Interstate 39 outside of Rochelle. I don't think anyone was injured, or at least I don't believe seriously. The accident happened maybe five minutes before I drove past. Emergency personnel were not even on scene yet.”
