Drought Monitor Shows Modest Improvements in Illinois, Stateline

There's progress to report on the drought front in the State of Illinois, including here locally! For the first time in months, the Rockford area, and the vast majority of Winnebago County are no longer characterized as being in an Extreme Drought! Now, just under 4% of the State is still in Extreme Drought, down from just over 7% a week ago! Unfortunately, that 3.8" of the area still in Extreme Drought all happen to be in the 23 WIFR viewing area, including all of Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties, sizable chunks of Whiteside and Stephenson Counties, and a sliver of Ogle and Winnebago Counties.

Modest improvements have also been noted in the Abnormally Dry, Moderate Drought, and Severe Drought categories, though, with no rain in the forecast for the entire next week, one thing's evident... we're nowhere near out of the woods, and there is still a LOT of work to be done before we can lay this drought to rest!
