DALLAS (AP) -- The National Weather Service says it appears that six to 12 tornadoes touched down in North Texas on Tuesday.

The twisters raked the Dallas-Fort Worth area, smashing a wing of a nursing home and stripped roofs from dozens of homes.

TV viewers watched in horror as live broadcasts showed menacing clouds and a large funnel draw truck trailers from a parking area into its wide spiral. The violent weather overturned cars and left some streets in damaged areas impassable.

Amazingly, there have been no fatalities reported. But 10 people were injured in Lancaster, just south of Dallas. Two of the injuries were severe. Three people in Arlington were injured.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport canceled hundreds of flights and diverted others heading its way. An airport spokesman said more than 110 planes were damaged by hail.

April is the peak of the tornado season that runs from March until June.

DALLAS (CBS) -- At least two tornadoes have touched down in Dallas as a band of severe weather moves through northern Texas.

There’s no word on any injuries yet, but city officials say the twisters caused extensive damage within city limits scattering tractor trailers across a parking lot and destroying dozens of homes.
