COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities in Cook County in the Chicago area and Madison County in southwestern Illinois are reporting several more heat-related deaths.

The Cook County medical examiner's office listed "heat stress" as a cause of death for three people Tuesday.

In Madison County, coroner Steve Nonn says 79-year-old Mildred Guide was found dead Monday in her Collinsville home by police asked to check on her by a Florida son. Guide's two dogs also were dead.

Nonn says the home had a working air-conditioning unit that wasn't turned on.

In western Illinois' Adams County, a 90-year-old woman was found dead in her home Saturday.

In nearby Morgan County, sheriff's deputies sent to check on 75-year-old Lois Wheeler found her body Friday.

Investigators say temperatures inside several homes were well above 110 degrees.
