Comparing March to April Through 17 days

Many have asked if April has been cooler than March thus far. The answer is yes and no. Through March's first 17 days, Rockford registered a stunning 4 days with temperatures of 70° or above, and 3 days with temperatures having reach...ed or exceeded 80°! So far in April's opening 17 days, we have been fortunate to manage 3 days of 70° or higher, but we're still off the score sheet with regards to 80° days!

That said, April's hardly been cool! Through the first two and a half weeks of the month, our average temperature (factoring all highs and lows) has been 51.1°, which is SIGNIFICANTLY above the normal temperature for the time period. The normal for that time period is just 46.9°!

As far as comparing March to April, our 51.1° average temperature mightily outlasts the 47.1° average that March's opening 17 days produced. The main reason for this disparity, if you'll recall, is the remarkably cold beginning to March. On March 2nd, the Stateline found itself under Winter Storm Warnings, and in the period between March 3-5, the temperature never rose above 33°! As the month progresses, though, I am supremely confident that the gap between March and April will close, and I think there's a better than 50/50 shot that March will end up warmer than April at the end of the day. Time will tell, and of course we'll keep a close eye on it!
