Cold's Here Briefly, First 70s Since October in Sight

Gone are Tuesday and Wednesday's 67° high temperatures, though signs strongly point to an even warmer Tuesday and Wednesday next week! A cold front touched off a few showers and thunderstorms early Thursday morning, and cooling followed very shortly thereafter. Thursday's high temperature of 47° actually occurred a few short minutes after the stroke of midnight. Another trough of low pressure sweeps through Thursday night, bringing even colder air in its wake for Friday!

The cooldown, though, is a very brief one, with Pacific air resurging into the region by Saturday, allowing for temperatures to rebound to near 60° to kick off the weekend! Shower chances Sunday into Monday will temper the continued warming trend, though 60s still appear to be very much a possibility both days. Should one or both of those days stay dry, a run close to 70° wouldn't be out of the question. But that's just the beginning!

There are currently two days featuring 70° temperatures or warmer in the next week, and a strong case could be made to say that Thursday could be #3! Whether it's two or three 70s is hardly the point. The far more important notion is the longevity that this warmth is poised to possess here! For days, our computer models have latched onto a pattern which keeps unseasonable warmth here well beyond our seven day forecast period! Current projections suggest that as many as 5-7 70s are possible within the next 10-12 days!!! The 8-14 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center captures the warmth's staying power quite nicely! All signs point to May-level warmth continuing here through St. Patrick's Day, and perhaps beyond! For those wondering about the possibility of records being tied or set Tuesday or Wednesday, it'll surely bear watching! The record high temperature for both days is 74°, with Tuesday's benchmark set in 2007 and Wednesday's back in 1995.
