Brief Warmup Tuesday, Chill Soon to Follow

Monday showed a marked improvement in our temperatures, thanks to full early-April sunshine from start to finish! That said, temperatures were again held down by a wind off of chilly Lake Michigan! Temperatures at RFD reached 67°, though 80s were reported within 70 miles of the Forest City, and 90s went in the books in St. Louis, Omaha, and even downstate portions of Illinois! Lake breezes should be nullified for a time Tuesday, as winds will organize and blow with gusto from the South!

But the resurgent warmth is only temporary! While temperatures may take a run toward 80° in spots Tuesday, a cold front's approach will threaten showers and t-storms in the afternoon, followed by yet another wind shift back off of Lake Michigan. Though our forecast high of 75° Tuesday is nearly 20° above normal, we're still encouraging folks to bring the jacket to work, as temperatures by the evening commute may be as low as the upper 50s!

Those heading to Wrigley Field for Thursday's Cubs Home Opener, you'll most definitely need the jacket! Though sunshine is expected to be dominant, the fact that a chilly Lake Michigan sits just 11 blocks away from the Friendly Confines makes a below normal temperature a near certainty! In stark contrast to our recently completed March in which lake breezes were an extreme rarity, April opens up with several days of lake breezes which are expected to continue through Easter weekend, with perhaps a temporary break from the chill on Saturday.
