BELOIT (WIFR) -- The roads in the City of Beloit are extremely slippery this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeing Rain Advisory for Rock County. The combination of light rain last night and freezing temperatures this morning, have created extremely hazardous travel conditions.

The Department of Public Works pre-sprayed the roads last night but the temperatures this morning are not working in our favor. Due to the excessive ice on the roads, the DPW is now spreading sand in an attempt to help increase traction on the roads for motorists.

The City of Beloit urges residents to stay home if at all possible today. Optional trips should be put off until the weather and the road conditions improve. If you must drive, please plan accordingly by building in extra travel time.
