Big Island Civil Defense officials say the lava flow from Kilauea Volcano has significantly slowed down, but homes in the Kalapana Gardens subdivision are still threatened.
Although no homes are in immediate danger right now, that wasn't the case over the weekend.
The Kalapana Gardens subdivision was decimated by lava 20 years ago. But over the past decade, the subdivision came back to life -- despite the looming threat of Pele's wrath.
Sunday one of the homes went up in flames. The threat of lava is a constant concern for the people who live in the Kalapana Gardens subdivision.
There are approximately 35 homes and 70 residents.
