16-year-old Austin Shinler was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth after he was struck but he doesn't remember it.
Austin and his cousin went up to a scenic overlook near Spirit Mountain in Duluth to watch the storm. His cousin rode his bike back to their
grandparent's place, but Austin was too tired to run back.
So Austin stayed, sat on a rock and waited for his grandfather to pick him up. That's when he was hit.
Other people who were also at that overlook to watch the storm helped Austin.
"They put blankets on me. They put blankets under my head and sat next to me until the ambulance got there," Austin said. "When they told me I was hit by lightning, I just looked around a little and I couldn't move my legs at all. I couldn't feel anything or move anything from the waist down for a while."
Austin has second-degree burns on his right ankle and right thigh.
He spent the night in the hospital and now he's back home in Harris, Minn. with a new pair of shoes. Austin said because of the lightning strike, the shoe that was on his right foot looked like a dog ate it.
