Montana Officials Expecting Favorable Weather For Firefighters

Posted: Mon 1:26 PM, Aug 06, 2007

HELENA, Mont. (AP) -- Cloudy weather is in the forecast again as firefighters try to control a 28 square-mile blaze in Montana that has forced the evacuation of at least 200 homes.

Yesterday (08/05) the wind was largely blowing the blaze back onto itself, and fire information officer Pat Cross expects the fire to "behave again."

The fire northeast of Missoula and several others in Montana caused Governor Brian Schweitzer to declare a state of emergency yesterday.

In northwestern Montana, about 50 homes ahead of a fire in the Flathead National Forest have been evacuated. Officials say residents to the north also may be evacuated if the fire continues growing.
