Heavy rain floods Fort Worth-area mobile home parks, 1 missing

HALTOM CITY, Texas (AP) -- A four-year-old girl is missing after flash-foods surged through a pair of mobile home parks in suburban Fort Worth, Texas today.

Many families were forced to their rooftops as the rapidly rising waters flooded about 100 mobile homes and washed many from their foundations.

The flood happened in Haltom City, where Deputy Fire Chief Fred Napp said at least one mobile home burned, and gas leaks were reported.

Napp says the predawn flood left confusion as neighbors took in children from other families fleeing the flood, making it hard to account for everyone.

Emergency officials say they'll make a more comprehensive search and accounting of the mobile home park residents today.

A police helicopter swept the swollen creek with a powerful searchlight in the hours just before dawn.
