Hundreds of firefighters battle wildfire in Northern California

COLEVILLE, Calif. (AP) -- Hundreds of firefighters are being called in to battle a wildfire burning in Northern California's Sierras near the Nevada state line.

The fire is being fanned by winds of up to 65 miles-an-hour and tripled in size Tuesday night to more than 600 acres.

Dozens of families have been evacuated from the area, including from a Marine Corps training base north of Coleville. The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Topaz Lake Lodge in Nevada.

High winds grounded airtankers and helicopters much of Tuesday.
