A High Surf advisory was issued for California's Bay Area Friday (11/27).

Big swells and strong winds are making the sea choppy. The surf advisory is for beaches between Sonoma and Monterey counties through the weekend (11/28-29).

The Coast Guard is warning residents to stay away from beaches and low-lying areas. The large waves and extremely cold temperatures are a dangerous mix.

Boaters are being asked to stay home until the sea calms a bit. If boaters must go out, Coast Guard officials say bring safety gear.
