The cleanup effort continues in the San Francisco Bay near Alameda, California after several hundred gallons of oil spilled into the bay.

The spill happened on Friday (10-30-09) when a fuel line on board a ship ruptured. About 422-gallons of fuel dumped into the water.

Cleanup crews have been working ever since to contain the spill and keep it from doing very much damage. Due to quick action, officials say the oil has been contained to a relatively small area.

There have been reports of 12 birds being affected by the spill. As for
fishing and shellfish harvesting, health officials have closed the area down and have not said when fishing will be allowed to resume.
