They're beginning to dig out in Cheyenne, Wyoming from a massive storm system moving across the western United States.

The storm system brought rain and wind to the west coast, but it was once the system hit the Rocky Mountain region that it picked up strength, slammed into cold air and dumped a bunch of snow across Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico.

In Cheyenne Wednesday (10-28-09), snow piled up in streets creating major headaches for anyone trying to get around the city all the while road crews did their best to plow the snow away.

There were reports throughout the day of traffic collisions and spotty
closures of Interstate 80 west of Cheyenne. That highway has a history of becoming a dangerous place to drive when intense weather like this hits.

Forecasters say the storm system will continue to pound southeastern Wyoming through Thursday with several more inches of snow expected.
