Much of northeastern Oklahoma is hoping it can dry out Tuesday (9/22) from Monday's flash flooding.

In Tulsa, a record was set when 4.42 inches of rain fell in the area. The old record was 3.50 inches set in 1902.

Early Tuesday morning, the Tulsa Fire Department had to rescue a woman stranded on top of her car. Authorities say she may have driven her car around a barrier and into the high water. After she called 9-1-1 for help, firefighters were able to get her to safety.

In another incident a man tried to push his way out of trouble when his car stalled in the water, but couldn't get it out. Another driver jumped out of his car to help him, and he was able to get his vehicle off the road.

Meanwhile, 3.85" of rain fell in nearby Monroe, WI and a record-breaking 3.63" fell in Madison. Freeport received a very respectable 1.87" while Rockford officially tallied 1.19". Other areas nearby were spared from the heavy rain. DeKalb only netted 0.15" while Chicago failed to measure any rainfall!

The same area of low pressure was responsible for the rains in the Plains and here locally, and that slow-moving system is expected to continue to affect our weather through the weekend.
