South Dakota is being hit with some severe weather. This is Rapid City today (11/6) where they got eight inches of snow overnight.
The snow was coming down at a rate of three inches an hour. An extremely dangerous blizzard is raging over the western part of the state today.
And that means dangerous driving conditions, that is if you have to go out. Winds of 40 to 60 mph are expected to create white out conditions and extremely difficult driving. The highway patrol has closed Interstate 90 between Murdo east of Rapid City all the way west to Spearfish.
Many schools and businesses in the area have closed for the day.
Some people have brought out the shovels but some just left them by the side of the house until the snow stops.
There are reports of up to two feet of snow in Spearfish and 44 inches of snow in Deadwood.
In Shannon County, 20-foot snowdrifts were reported on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation. Power outages have been reported Pine Ridge as well.
