MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Residents are cleaning up after at least six tornadoes ripped across southern Wisconsin, tearing roofs off homes and damaging the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus.
State emergency managers say Platteville apparently was hit by two tornadoes. A report from Wisconsin's Emergency Operations Center says a "low-end" EF2 tornado with winds up to 120 mph ran through the UW-Platteville campus.
A "high-end" EF1 tornado with winds up to 105 mph struck near the Platteville Golf and Country Club.
The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down in northwest Verona. At least 30 homes there had major damage. A wall partially collapsed at Country View Elementary School.
The Weather Service also says a survey team identified three other tornadoes, including two in far northwest Green County and one on Madison's southwest side.
