The National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in central and southeastern Virginia today (04/28).
Suffolk was hit with a string of severe storms and tornados, damaging Sentara Obici Hospital and homes in nearby subdivisions.
According to Virginia Department of Emergency Management, at least 200 people were injured. There are no confirmed reports of any deaths at this time.
Governor Timothy M. Kaine declared a state of emergency for areas of
southeastern Virginia damaged by the storms. Trees and power lines are down and there are reports of flooding and property damage.
