The Pecatonica River level has risen to 13.96 feet. Flood stage is 13 feet. The river forecasters predict a crest of 14.2 feet late Sunday the 13th of April. This prediction takes into account the rain from the last several days.

Approximately 1 to 2 inches of rain fell over the last several days. A majority of the heavy rain fell to the west of Freeport in the Yellow Creek basin, causing the creek to go out of its banks. Yellow Creek is still out of its banks and will remain so for at least the next 24 hours. Basement flooding has been reported in most communities though out the county. Currier Creek is starting to back up into the Taylor Park area. Residence from the Third and McClure Streets are experiencing flood waters coming close to Henderson Road. Residents in the flood plain of the Pecatonica and Yellow Creek can expect water in low lying areas, streets and rural roads.

Drivers are advised to not drive on closed roads due to water on the pavement. Flood water can carry your vehicle into the stream or river putting the occupants of the vehicle in danger. People are advised to not venture into the flood waters as they could be caught in the current and drowned. Also any flood water should be considered “black water” which is contaminated.
