Flood Advisory

Stephenson County Emergency Management Agency using existing data from the National Weather Service is making this flood advisory statement.

The Pecatonica River level at Freeport is 12.96 feet as of 0900 hours April 01, 2008. Flood stage is 13.0 feet. Anticipated rainfall for last night did not materialize, thus dropping the crest prediction for Freeport to 13.10 feet, which will occur early Wednesday morning.
Very little rain is forecast for the area in next seven days. This will allow the river to maintain a slow fall below flood stage and to a level around 12 foot by the weekend.
The Pecatonica River will still remain above its normal level, which historically would be 4.5 feet, for an extended period of time. The area will remain vulnerable to potential flooding should there be heavy rain fall reoccurring over a period of two or three days. The National Service defines a heavy rain as being an inch of rain over a six hour period.

This will be the last flood advisory for the current conditions, unless there is a dramatic change in the weather pattern
