Massive flooding continues to affect residents across southern Missouri. In Galena, the high water is actually starting to recede, but is leaving a lot of damage behind.
Authorities are slowly reopening the main roads in and out of town that have been shut down since late Tuesday night.
The James River had overflowed and swamped the surrounding neighborhood and highways. The bank and the post office sustained serious flood damage.
Residents were forced to flee to higher ground. Many flood victims took advantage of a shelter the Red Cross set up at a local church.
Firefighters from Barry and Stone counties spent much of the morning trying to assist victims and keep onlookers at a safe distance.
