The wicked weather snarled traffic on the roads and caused up to five hour delays at New York City airports. Hundreds of flights were also canceled.
At New York's LaGuardia Airport, 548 flights had been canceled, 40 flights were canceled at John F. Kennedy International Airport and, 330 were canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Delays were up to five hours at Newark, three hours at LaGuardia and close to two hours at Kennedy.
Several airlines, including JetBlue Airways and Delta Air Lines, were letting passengers flying to or from the area rebook their tickets without a fee.
Even Chicago's airports felt a ripple effect, with delays averaging 1 to 3 hours at O'Hare and Midway on flights heading to the East Coast.
