So far this month, the coolest high temperature recorded in Rockford has been 56° while the coldest low temperature has been just 37°. That might SEEM cold to us, especially in the wake of the truly amazing warmth of last weekend, but to put things in perspective, let me offer the following numbers.
By this time last October, there had been 13 occasions in which the mercury failed to reach higher than 56°, and 12 times, nighttime lows fell to 37° or below. Included in those 13 days, a 39° and 40° HIGH temperature, and even a trace of snow!
Even in a very warm October 2005, there had been a half dozen days in with temperatures at or below 56° during the day, and four nights with 37° lows or cooler.
Things will be trending cooler for the next week, but there is positively NO indication of any true Arctic air destined for our region anytime soon!
