Property Reassessment Available for Flood Damaged Properties in Winnebago County

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- On April 18th, 2013 Illinois Governor Pat Quinn issued a proclamation which declared Winnebago County, and 37 other counties, disaster areas because of damage caused by flooding from heavy rainfall which moved through the area on April 15-18, 2013.

Winnebago County property owners who have experienced substantial damage caused by the flooding can apply for a reassessment of their damaged property. The Illinois Property Tax Code provides a method for prorating the original assessment for 2013 up to the date of the disaster proclamation and then using the reassessed value of the property on the date of the proclamation for the remainder of the year.

Applications which can be used to apply for the reassessment are available in the Supervisor of Assessments office, from all Township Assessors and by clicking on Disaster Relief Application tab under Additional Pages on the Supervisor of Assessments website assessor@wincoil.us .
