Army Pvt. Andres D. Arellano has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. The private graduated in 1999 from Lena Winslow High School, Lena, and received an associate degree in 2002 from Highland Community College, Freeport, Ill.

Army Staff Sgt. Michael R. Beyer

Army Staff Sgt. Michael R. Beyer has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal.

The medal is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who distinguish themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States in noncombat situations.

Beyer is a tank commander assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 72nd Armor at Camp Casey, Tongduchon-Up, South Korea.

He is a 1985 graduate of Orangeville High School, Ill.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Edward K. Clint

Air Force Airman 1st Class Edward K. Clint has graduated from the helicopter maintenance apprentice course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va.

The student attended helicopter maintenance fundamentals training and specific training of helicopters in the Air Force inventory. Training included helicopter familiarization, ground handling, airframe components, gear box, wheel and landing gear; utility, electrical, hydraulic, radio, instrument, fuel, transmission, drive and power plant systems; also, main and tail rotors, flight control, aircraft vibrations, balancing and tracking, and phase and supplemental inspections and servicing.

During the course, the soldier learned to perform unit maintenance on heavy duty vehicles, including prime movers designated as more than five tons and associated trailers, such as crane, hoist, and winch assemblies, and material handling equipment; performed maintenance and repaired systems, chassis, and assemblies pertaining to brake, ignition, engine, electrical, axle, hydraulic, transmission, suspension, wheel, and steering.

Army National Guard Pfc. Jeremy A. Hackman

Army National Guard Pfc. Jeremy A. Hackman has graduated from the multichannel transmission systems operator-maintainer course at Fort Gordon, Augusta, Ga.

The 12-week course is designed to train enlisted soldiers in the installation, operation and unit maintenance of line-of-sight multichannel radio relay and multiplexing equipment used in telephone and telegraph communications systems. The students also receive instruction in electronic countermeasures, signal operating instructions, radio and multiplexing equipment, antennas and power generation equipment.

Hackman is the son of Harry R. and Juanita A. Hackman of Rockford, Ill.

The private is a 1991 graduate of Harlem High School, Loves Park, Ill.

Air Force 2nd Lt. Matthew P. Hall

Air Force 2nd Lt. Matthew P. Hall has graduated from undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.

The student completed 190 flying hours in either the T-37, T-38, or T-1A aircraft, 62 flight simulator hours, 342 academic hours, 105 officer training hours, weather training for flight plans, and the fundamentals of aircraft handling, instrumentation, formation, and night flying.

At the end of training, the officer received an aeronautical rating of pilot in the Air Force, competent and qualified to perform the duties and accept responsibilities thereof.

He is the son of Susan H. Hall of 1023 W. Poplar, Mascoutah, Ill., and retired Air Force Lt. Col. Donald B. Hall of Silverthorn Drive, Rockford, Ill.

The lieutenant graduated in 1997 from Mascoutah Community High School, and received a bachelor's degree in 2001 from U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Aaron T. Hamilton

Aaron T. Hamilton has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Ariz.

The new officer will be branched to a specific corps in the Army to serve on active duty or in the national guard or reserve. The lieutenant also will attend an officer basic course which relates to his or her particular military occupational specialty/job.

Army Pvt. Stephen B. Hare

Army Pvt. Stephen B. Hare has arrived at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md., to complete the wheeled vehicle repairer advanced individual training (AIT) course.

The student will be trained to troubleshoot, repair, replace and adjust all related engine, fuel, air and cooling systems, electrical chassis, mechanical and hydraulic components, systems, and assemblies of wheeled vehicles and diesel power plants/packs. Additional instruction will include use of technical publications, tools, and diagnostic equipment needed to repair wheeled vehicles.

Air Force Staff Sgt. James A. Koester

Air Force Staff Sgt. James A. Koester has deployed to a forward operating location to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Enduring Freedom is the official name given to the biggest U.S. military mobilization since the Gulf War in 1991. Members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces have been deployed and reserve components activated to support the war against global terrorism, combating the international terrorist network or regime forces outside of the United States.

The sergeant, a command post controller, is the son of Bernard H. and Dolores E. Koester of N. Fremont St., Lena, Ill.

Koester graduated in 1985 from Lena-Winslow High School, Lena, and received a bachelor's degree in 2002 from McKendree College, Lebanon, Ill.

Air Force Senior Airman Andrew T. Kolb

Kolb is a munitions systems journeyman assigned to the 49th Maintenance Squadron.

Edvon D. Macklin

Edvon D. Macklin has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty prior to being assigned to their first permanent duty station.

Army Pvt. Seth D. Pripps has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Pripps is the son of Douglas D. and Julie A. Pripps of Wishart Drive, Rockford, Ill.

In 2002, the soldier graduated from Guilford High School, Rockford.

Army Reserve Pvt. William A. Rainbolt

Army Reserve Pvt. William A. Rainbolt has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army history, tradition and core values, and special training in human relations.

He is the son of Bill and Kathy Rainbolt of Rockford, Ill.

Timothy A. Ratzlaff

Timothy A. Ratzlaff has completed the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) field training encampment at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.

The five-to seven-week summer curriculum is designed to motivate, educate, and evaluate a cadet's leadership potential to be an Air Force officer. The field training is normally attended by cadets between their sophomore and junior year of college, which gives students their first exposure to a working Air Force environment and have an opportunity to learn and apply officer leadership theory and techniques.

The training includes leadership evaluation exercises, officer specialty orientation and training, survival training, confidence course, physical training, aircraft and aircrew orientation, small arms handling, human relations, and study of the organization and functions of an Air Force base.

Upon graduation from a college or university and successful completion of the ROTC program, the cadet is commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.

The cadet is a student at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis.

He is the son of George A. and Jane E. Ratzlaff of Grant Ave., Rockford, Ill.

The cadet is a 2000 graduate of Boylan Catholic High School, Rockford.

Air Force Airman Tamara M. Rogalski

Air Force Airman Tamara M. Rogalski has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Rogalski is a 1998 graduate of Harlem High School, Machesney Park, Ill.

Air Force Airman Angela M. Sasser

Air Force Airman Angela M. Sasser has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

She is the daughter of Kim Gipe of Bailey Road, and Marv Kloster, both of Pecatonica, Ill.

Sasser is a 2000 graduate of Pecatonica High School.

Air Force Senior Airman Jerry T. Sasser Jr.

Air Force Senior Airman Jerry T. Sasser Jr. has graduated from Airman Leadership School at Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va.

During the five-week course, airmen are trained to understand their positions in the Air Force organizational structure, leadership, communications skills, and profession of arms, which are needed for professional development to be effective noncommissioned officers.

The course is designed to prepare and better equip senior airmen to serve as supervisors, managers and rating officials as they progress in their enlisted military careers. The school is the first of three levels of professional military education programs used to develop and cultivate leadership and supervisory skills, and is a required course for airmen to complete prior to being promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.

Sasser is a tactical aircraft maintenance journeyman assigned to the 71st Fighter Squadron at Langley Air Force Base.

He is the son of Jerry T. Sasser of Mount Dora, Fla., and Deborah Homs of Sorrento, Fla.

His wife, Angela, is the daughter of Kimberly Gipe of Pecatonica, Ill.

The senior airman is a 1993 graduate of Mount Dora High School.

Jeremy C. Saxby

Jeremy C. Saxby has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty prior to being assigned to their first permanent duty station.

Saxby, a 2001 graduate of Auburn High School, Rockford, Ill., has reported for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

He is the son of Bonnie K. Saxby of Dennis Drive, Rockford.

Army Pvt. Andrew A. Spencer

Army National Guard Sergeant Travis Cade Voss

Army National Guard Sergeant Travis Cade Voss graduated from basic military training at Fort McClellan, Alabama in April of 1999.

During training for the Military Police, Travis received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, rifle marksmanship, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. He is currently serving with the army National Guard unit 333rd Military Police Company, located in Freeport, IL.

Travis has a wife Angela and a three year old son Cade Travis Voss they reside in Freeport, IL. Travis is the son of Richard and Nancy Voss. Brother to Danielle and Brady Voss, and uncle to Briana Voss all of Freeport, IL.

Travis graduated in 1994 for Pearl City High School in Pearl City IL he also attended SIU, Carbondale, IL and HCC of Freeport IL.

Air Force Airman Brad L. Walker

The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

The sergeant, a nursing student with eight years of military service, is currently assigned at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Jill Torgerson of Halverson Drive, Rockford, Ill., and Harvey Gahl of Wittwer Road, South Beloit, Ill.

Wallace is a 1984 graduate of Jefferson High School, Rockford, and received a bachelor's degree in 1997 from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
