Workers Memorial Day Ceremony
Apr 29, 2013 5:00 p.m.
E.J. "Zeke" Giorgi Building, 200 South Wyman Street, Rockford, IL 61101
This Memorial is dedicated to the men and women of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin who are members of organized labor and died while at work in their chosen occupation. “Let them always be remembered.”
The first Worker’s Memorial Day was observed April 28, 1989. This day was chosen because it is the anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act & the day of a similar remembrance in Canada. Trade unionists around the globe now mark April 28th as an “International Day of Mourning” to recognize workers who have been killed or injured on the job.
Rockford United Labor will hold a brief ceremony at the Workers’ Memorial Day Tablet behind the E. J. “Zeke” Giorgi Building (located at 200 South Wyman Street in Rockford) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013. Refreshments will be served immediately following.
