Boone County Fairgrounds & Belvidere High School
Both Belvidere High Schools are collaborating to create a day of fun-filled events for the community with the goal of raising funds for life-saving research to prevent, treat and cure childhood cancer. We are going to kick off the day at the Boone County Fairgrounds with the "Bucs Thundering Towards A Cure" 5K Color Walk/Run. This is a unique race focused less on athleticism and more on a wild explosion of color with friends and family. Our 5K will turn you and your shirt into a smorgis board of color. All are welcome to run no matter how in shape you are, or even what shape you really are. It’s all about raising funds for a great cause and having a fantastic time, whether you sprint to the finish or walk with your child and have the experience of a lifetime! Our website will be up and running by the end of this week at www.bucsthundering.com.
Then the day will culminate with the St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving event at in the Auxiliary Gym of Belvidere High School. Why all the shaved heads? Since 2000, more than 240,000 volunteers -- including more than 24,000 women -- have shaved their heads at events in dozens of countries and every U.S. state to demonstrate their solidarity with children who have cancer. Thanks to generous friends and family, these shavees have raised more than $146 million for life-saving research, and each is a walking billboard for the cause!
