Student Outreach with the Rock Valley College Jazz Ensemble
Nov 9, 2012 10:00 a.m.
Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 North Court Street, Rockford, IL
The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center is pleased to present the Rock Valley College Jazz Ensemble in a free student outreach for fifth through twelfth grade students! Mr. Kenneth Stein will direct the ensemble in a lecture/demonstration and mini-concert for up to 850 area students and teachers.
This is an opportunity for local and regional students to hear an exciting jazz band that is located virtually in their own backyard! School music teachers, please consider bringing your entire music department and any students who would be enriched by this fun and educational music experience. Home schooled students and their parents are welcome too!
To register, please contact Tammy Schulz, MPAC Outreach Coordinator, at email@example.com by Friday, October 12, 2012. For more information, please contact the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center at 815-964-9713 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Jazz developed in the United States in the early part of the 20th century. African-American musical traditions mixed with other musical traditions, and jazz emerged from a blend of ragtime, marches, blues, and other musical genres. Jazz is one of the United States' greatest exports to the world. For more info about the Rock Valley College Jazz Ensemble, please visit http://www.rockvalleycollege.edu/Academics/Music/index.cfm.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
Our partners for this project are Keith Country Day School and Court Street United Methodist Church.
