Rock Valley College Performing Arts Room (PAR)
The Rock Valley College Department of Mass Communication is proud to announce its Fourth Annual Student Documentary Showcase.
Admission is free and the Mass Communication studio will be open for tours after the show.
All of the student films were produced in the fall of 2013 and cover a wide range of interesting topics:
Moments: The Jenna Stahl Story, By Paul Stalter: Jenna Marie Stahl was injured in a shooting on Sept. 1, 2008, and has been paralyzed from the chest down since that time. This is her story.
The Heartbeat of Ireland, By Rosalie Gaffney: The Heartbeat of Ireland explores the world of Irish dancing through the eyes of four dancers and their teacher.
Grey Area, By Cherish Warden: A look into a local tattoo shop that addresses the problems and solutions regarding cleanliness and sterilization of tattoo equipment.
Challenging Stereotypes: Christianity and Homosexuality: A look at a church that takes no stance on homosexuality and how that affects Dylan Garcia, a queer individual who goes there.
1 in 4, By Toni Stratton & Kiersten Fromm: One in four college women have been sexually abused or assaulted. 1 in 4 reveals the truth behind the heartache these survivors must overcome.
A Foreigner’s Compassion, By Tuvshinbold “Bold” Naidandorj: Susan Griffeth was a missionary who lived in Mongolia for 12 years and worked with the poor and with homeless children. She faced many adversaries but despite her difficulties she rose above them.
