Fees for the regular adult flu vaccine are $30.00 and $45 for the high dose vaccine
(recommended for persons age 65 and older). It is important that persons 65 and over
bring their Medicare part B cards (red, white and blue card) as it will cover the cost of
the flu vaccine. Children, 6 months of age to 18 years of age, may receive a flu shot for
$20.00. Cash, check, credit card and Public Aid are also acceptable forms of payment.
Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can affect even healthy people.
It spreads person to person through respiratory droplets when an infected person
coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include fever (usually high), headache, cough, sore
throat, runny or stuffy nose and body aches.
“A flu shot protects not only you but those around you.” said Amanda Mehl, the Health
Department’s Director of Personal Health Services. “In addition to getting a flu shot,
remember to practice other stay healthy habits: cover your mouth when you cough,
regularly wash your hands, and stay home from work or school when you are sick to
prevent spreading influenza to others.”
Public health officials recommend that everyone six months of age and older should be
vaccinated against influenza, especially pregnant women, young children, people 65
years of age and older, and anyone with underlying health conditions like asthma,
diabetes, or a weakened immune system.
